Education Freedom Alliance Responds to Universal School Choice Inclusion in 2024 Republican Platform

By: Lisa B. Nelson, Kim Reynolds, Doug Ducey, and Alfredo Ortiz

The following members of the Education Freedom Alliance released statements in response to universal school choice being included in the 2024 Republican platform:

Kim Reynolds, Governor of Iowa and Co-Chair of the Education Freedom Alliance, released the following statement:

“By making universal school choice a key part of the GOP platform, Republicans are taking Iowa’s successful education freedom model nationwide. The party recognizes that strong legislation in the states can be used to create opportunities for every American family to thrive. As we’ve demonstrated in Iowa, universal school choice is a catalyst for positive change.”

Doug Ducey, 23rd Governor of Arizona and Co-Chair of the Education Freedom Alliance, released the following statement:

“By featuring universal school choice in its 2024 platform, Republicans are demonstrating once again that we are the party of ideas and policy innovation. Educational freedom is one of Arizona’s proudest achievements, and this policy is making a real difference for families by allowing all children – no matter their zip code – to receive a high-quality education. By adopting it in the federal platform, Republicans can expand this same school choice opportunity to every student in the nation. Republicans offer families concerned about American education a clear choice on Election Day.

Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement on the Republican 2024 platform featuring universal school choice:

“The Republican platform’s support for universal school choice demonstrates the party’s strong commitment to fixing the broken American education system that has failed generations of poor and minority children. Universal education savings accounts empower families to escape failing public schools for better alternatives. While Democrats want to entrench the failing status quo to reward their teacher union donors, Republicans have shown once again that they are willing to lead on education reform that delivers the quality education all students deserve. Every family who wants education options for their kids now knows which party to vote for on Election Day.”

Lisa B. Nelson, CEO of the American Legislative Exchange Council:

“The Education Freedom Alliance is excited to see universal education freedom in the Republican Party’s 2024 platform. Education freedom offers students the best opportunity to access the quality schools they deserve. Its inclusion in the national platform will help all state legislators and the Education Freedom Alliance get even more states to adopt universal education freedom over the coming months and years.”
